Quick answer
No, you don’t need to be home for the whole fit. Most of our Plymouth clients go to work as normal. You’ll want to be around for the first morning, for any decision points, and for the final walk-round — but the day-to-day work doesn’t need you watching over it. We sort access and updates so the job runs smoothly whether you’re in or out.
When it helps to be around
You don’t need to take ten days off — far from it. But there are a few moments where five minutes of your time saves a phone call later. These are the points where we’ll ask you to be available, in person or just on the end of the phone.
The first morning
We like to start the job with you there: confirm the plan, agree where things go, sort access and protection, and answer any last questions. After that, the team gets on with it.
Key decision points
Occasionally something needs a quick yes — a tile set-out, the exact height of a shower valve, what to do if we find damp behind the old tiles. A two-minute call keeps the job moving.
The final handover
At the end we walk you round the finished bathroom, show you how everything works, hand over your guarantee and care advice, and pick up any snags on the spot.
How access works if you’re out
Plenty of our clients work full-time, and we’re set up for it. We’ll agree a sensible arrangement at the start — whatever you’re comfortable with:
- A key or key-safe code for the duration, returned at the end.
- A neighbour or family member who lets us in and out.
- Set start and finish times so you can be there at either end if you prefer.
- One named project manager as your single point of contact, so you always know who’s in your home.
Whatever the arrangement, we treat your home like our own — sheeted floors, a tidy site, and the door locked when we leave. You’ll get a daily update on where the job is and what’s happening next, so being out never means being out of the loop.
One named project manager, agreed access and daily updates mean the job runs smoothly whether you’re home or not.
Why trust matters more than supervision
The real question behind “do I need to be home?” is usually “can I trust the people in my house?” That’s fair, and it’s exactly why we built the business the way we did. You’re not letting in a rotating cast of subcontractors you’ve never met — it’s a named Plymouth team, fully insured, with a real portfolio of finished bathrooms you can see two streets away. One project manager runs your job from start to finish, so there’s always one person accountable for what happens in your home.
That’s also why people are comfortable handing us a key. The trust is built before we start — through a fixed written quote, a clear plan, and references if you’d like them. If you want to know more about how we work, our FAQs cover the practical side, and our areas page shows where we work across Plymouth and the South West.
Common questions about being home
Can I give you a key and go to work?
Yes — lots of clients do. We’ll agree a key, key-safe or neighbour arrangement at the start and return the key at the end. Whatever you’re comfortable with works for us.
What if a decision comes up while I’m out?
Your project manager will call or message you for a quick steer rather than guess. For anything that can wait, we note it and run through it at the next handover point, so the job never stalls.
Do I need to be there at the very end?
We strongly recommend it for the handover, so we can walk you round, show you how everything works and deal with any snags face to face. If you genuinely can’t, we’ll arrange a follow-up. Get in touch to talk it through.
